Why getting B Corp certification was important (and what the hell is a B Corp anyway?)
So you might see a new logo on our website. Sitting proudly alongside our gold Best Design Award logo (our cup design got the big nod from people who know their design shit) and our Carbon Positive logo (we’re not just ‘carbon neutral’ - we actually remove additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere).
It’s the new kid in our logo lineup - one that lets you know The Hello Cup is now a Certified B Corporation company!
Sounds fancy? We think so too but in all seriousness it’s something we are very proud of.
What is a B Corp company? B Corps are a global movement of people using businesses as a force for good and The Hello Cup is now one of more than 3000 B Corps in around 150 industries around the world.
How do you become a B Corp? It’s not an easy achievement. You have to prove your heart is where your mouth is. It takes months, sometimes longer. Your business needs to meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose and your impact report is available for anyone to read.
What to B Corps do? B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. By harnessing the power of business, B Corps use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment.
So why did The Hello Cup want to achieve B Corp certification? We love the way that certified B Corp businesses help people navigate towards a business that they know meets certain criteria. While menstrual cups are better for the environment (did you know The Hello Cup have already saved 200 million tampons and pads from landfill and are aiming to prevent 1 billion by 2025?), there’s more to our business. We want our customers to know we care. We care about them, we care about our staff and we care about our planet.
Yes we are a business, but we don’t put profit before purpose. Never. Never ever.
